Choosing The Right Camping Rain Gear

March 4, 2017 by Dave Witzel

camping rain gearDo you have a perfect adventure planned out at a campground, yet the forecast looks like it may be rainy? No matter what, you need to be sure that you have the right rain gear to help you to have a wonderful campground adventure despite the weather. These are some tips that you can keep in mind for selecting the right camping rain gear.

It can be a lot for anyone to take in with all of the technical terminology that comes with the different rain gear options that are available today. You will find it helpful to always look at the items that are going to be highly rated and also lightweight if you are going to be leaving your campground campsite and heading out for a hike.

Understanding Waterproof Or Water-Resistant

There can be quite a bit of confusion as to whether or not you need to have camping gear that is waterproof or water-resistant. Water-resistent items are going to keep you dry whenever you are faced with periods of light rain. These are products that are going to be made from fabric that is lightweight and breathable, just right to cover you when there is light drizzle.

Waterproof items are made to give you a tougher level of rain protection while you are camping. This is basically gear that is non-breathable and fully waterproof, made from rubber or PVC. However, this may not be all that comfortable to you when you set out on that hiking adventure. You need to take the time to shop for the right breathable items that are going to be comfortable while also giving you a barrier for dryness on the inside while also wicking away the moisture through the fabric.

As you shop for your camping rain gear, you may even find that there are recommendations and reviews that you can read up on for every product that you are interested in. If you have not picked out your campsite already, you can think about also giving your campground a phone call to see if they have any sites that are nestled in the trees to give you a bit more protection from the impending rain storms.
